About the film
Beyond the Face is a thought-provoking short stop motion animated film. It has been in the development since 2018 as a student project that later on grew up into a master degree film.
The film will have it's premiere this year, 2024.
Synopsis
A young man is cleaning the apartment of his father, who has recently passed away. He is forced to relive his traumatic memories of growing up and losing his soul.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I started developing the film Beyond The Face in the second year of the Academy. For me the basic motivation for development of this film is a quote by English writer Amanda Richardson “In a world where everyone wears masks, it’s a privilege to see the soul.”
While growing up I always had a feeling that somehow I don’t fit in with my peers or even into this world. Amanda Richardson’s quote strongly touched me, as I have found through my own experience that it is so rare to meet someone who understands you or has similar views on the life. Through the film, I want to take each viewer through their own personal experience of growing up. I’m sure that everyone will be able to connect with the story of the film. There is enough openness and interpretation of the meaning of the story wrapped in a mixture of the real world and fantasies of abstract and grotesque metaphors.
I graduated on the bachelor degree with the short behind the scenes documentary video and I made a detailed research on complexity of facial animation in animated films, which also helped me making puppet expressions for my own film. Beyond The Face will be my master degree project. The entire scenography of the street and the puppets were made with the help of my family in Slovenia.
We also fabricated and programmed our own camera slider that is interconnected with Dragonframe program. Automated movements will make the animation work easier, allowing me more varied camera movements in the film.
Last year, the project was part of the DSAF Incubator, through which I had a consultation opportunity with Špela Čadež and Julio Peguet. Later on I also completed 10 individual consultations with Julia Peguet, during which she helped me raise my animation quality to a higher level through exercises related to the project. The project was also selected for the CEE Rising Star 2021, where I presented my film to a wider audience with a pitch presentation.
